Details

Chi di Ebere is a deeply personal sound installation shaped by the artist’s journey through grief following the sudden loss of a loved one. Anchored in Igbo mourning traditions and intertwined with contemporary electronic composition, the work functions as both tribute and ritual, an offering of memory, sorrow, and love that extends beyond the personal to touch the universal experience of loss.

Presented as a multichannel sound installation enveloped in shifting fields of colored light, Chi Di Ebere creates an immersive environment that guides listeners through an emotional landscape. Each sonic layer – field recordings, ancestral rhythms, and electronic textures – traces the stages of mourning: from the raw disorientation of shock, through the silence of absence, toward moments of remembrance, and, ultimately, the quiet stirrings of healing.

Rooted in the cosmology and oral traditions of Igbo culture, the work reimagines music not only as a vehicle for personal mourning, but also as a space for transformation and communal reflection. Sound becomes a bridge, between the living and the departed, between what is lost and what endures.

More than an elegy, Chi Di Ebere invites the audience to sit with grief, to listen inwardly, and to experience the subtle rituals through which we carry memory forward. In doing so, the work honors both the pain of parting and the enduring presence of those we have loved.

A vinyl edition of Chi Di Ebere is also available, extending the sonic tribute beyond the installation space into a more intimate, personal form of listening.
