Details

Ojuelegba is a multisensory installation inspired by one of Lagos’s most vital urban intersections, a site defined by constant movement, negotiation, and encounter. Situated between Yaba and Surulere, Ojuelegba functions as a connective artery where everyday life unfolds through sound, circulation, and density.

Rooted in field recordings from the district – traffic, bus conductors’ calls, street vendors, and fragments of conversation – the work forms the basis of a musical composition titled 6°30′33.372″N 3°22′0.66″E, named after the site’s geographic coordinates. The installation is conceived as a three-wall environment, in which multichannel sound unfolds as a surround composition, allowing individual tracks to expand into immersive listening fields.

Visual material drawn from everyday life in Ojuelegba is distributed across multiple screens and continuously reconfigured through a generative system. Video sequences cycle unpredictably across the walls, with edits aligning at times tightly to rhythmic pulses or stretching across longer musical phrases. Subtle shifts between monochrome and selective color respond to the music’s internal rhythms, with specific hues briefly emerging and receding in time with the sound. Each presentation unfolds differently, mirroring the district’s volatility and perpetual motion.
